The mountain hike from Kandersteg Sunnbüel over the Gemmi Pass to Schwarzgrätli is a circular tour in alpine surroundings. The Gemmi Pass has a long history as an important connection between the Bernese Oberland and the Valais. For centuries, people have used this pass to trade and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
From the mountain station Sunnbüel you follow the wide, mostly flat Gemmiweg across the Gemmi plateau to the mountain hotel “Schwarenbach”. From now on it gets steep. The mountain hiking trail branches off to the right directly behind the hotel. It leads in many hairpin bends up to the Wysse Flue and the idyllic, turquoise Tschalmeten-Seeli. From here it is only a few minutes to Schwarzgrätli. Once on the ridge, you are rewarded by the spectacular view deep down into the Üschenetal. From here you could hike even further, for example over the Üschenegrat back to Sunnbüel or down to the Tällisee via a path lined with chains. However, since it was getting too late for me, I prefered to turn back and took a short break at the Seeli before starting the descent towards the mountain hotel.
